August Rush on Broadway

December 2, 2014

Last year Playbill was the first to announce August Rush is on its way to Broadway. A year later, the project has shaped and should hit the New York theaters in 2015.

The film has been adapted for the stage by Glen Berger and Mark Mancina (who also composed the music for the original film in 2007).

Berger wrote the book and lyrics and is known for his plays like Underneath the Lintel the troubled superhero musical Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark. Mancina composed the music and co-wrote the lyrics. He won Grammy Awards for his work on the soundtracks to Disney’s The Lion King and Tarzan, and has composed numerous scores for film and television.

Producers Southpaw Entertainment and CJ E&M announced that the Broadway-bound project will have a closed-door developmental industry presentation in New York on Dec. 9-10, directed by John Doyle.
Cast for the workshop includes theater veterans Terrence Mann, Isabel Keating, Alexander Gemignani and Mark Jacoby. Sam Pinkleton will serve as choreographer, with Kimberly Grigsby as musical director.
