A trailer for the 84th Academy Awards was released online to debut in theaters across the US on January 6, produced in association with Funny or Die, a comedy website co-founded by Will Ferrell.
Instead of a clip-based ad, this special trailer called "Off the Grid" features the 2012 Oscar show host Billy Crystal and Robin Williams, with appearances by Josh Duhamel and Megan Fox, both from Transformers films.
The footage opens with a Hollywood mogul sending a team out to hunt for Billy Crystal, who is tracked down in the outer reaches of Mongolia disguised as a Yeti. When he is discovered they ask, "Are you known as The Host?"
The ceremony marks the comedic actor's ninth turn as host of the ceremony and his first since the Oscar telecast in 2004. The Academy's marketing officer Christina Kounelias said in the release, "The trailer has a fun twist that conveys how excited everyone is to have Billy back."
The Academy Awards will be presented on February 26 at the Kodak Theatre in Hollywood and televised live on the ABC Television Network at 8 pm ET and in more than 225 countries worldwide.
