#1 Battle of the Smithsonian! (May
25)
"Night
at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian"
did extremely well during its opening weekend. The
movie screens at 4,096 theaters and 160 IMAX sites,
including the Smithsonian itself, and generated $53,500,000
in it's opening weekend alone. No other film could
top that, which means "Battle of the Smithsonian"
is ranked #1 in the US Box Office.
Distributor 20th Century Fox's exit polling classified
52 percent of the audience as "non-family"
(the other 48 percent being families), and suggested
that 55 percent of that crowd was under 25 years old
with an even split between the genders. source: boxofficemojo.com

Tour Resumes on September 30, 2009! (May
13)
PRESS RELEASE - Robin
Williams is returning to the road to resume his “Weapons
of Self-Destruction” comedy tour after postponing
several dates in March to undergo heart surgery. “Weapons”
launched in September 2008 and played to rave reviews
and sold out crowds. As the tour continues, Williams
will unleash his “Weapons” on Chicago,
Atlanta, Orlando and Washington DC, among many other
cities. The announcement comes on the day of Robin’s
highly anticipated return to the scene with a May
13 appearance on “The Late Show with David Letterman”
and on the eve of the May 14 world premiere of Twentieth
Century Fox Films’ “Night
at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian,”
in which Williams reprises his role as ‘Teddy
Roosevelt’. That film is set for release on
May 22.
“This little break has given me more energy
than ever,” said Williams. “Plus
it’s wonderful to have a cow valve... If you
don’t mind the grazing, it’s quite invigorating.”
A string of rescheduled dates has been announced,
as well as some brand new shows. For fans that had
purchased tickets to previously postponed shows, those
tickets will be honored for the rescheduled engagements.
However, those ticket holders must contact the venue’s
box office for details.

Watch out, he's back! (May
06)
On March 23 in a press release it was mentioned
that Robin's recovery would take about 8 weeks.
Apparently those 8 weeks have passed! Robin performed
last night in Mill Valley, CA (Throckmorton 142)
with Mark Pitta & Friends. This was the first
time he performed on stage after the surgery.
Here at the Fansite we're very relieved the recovery
went well and as planned. We wish him good luck
going back to work.
Rainforest SOS (May 05)
Robin has got involved in The Prince's Rainforest
Projects. The focal point of the campaign is a 90-second
public awareness film in which His Royal Highness
appears alongside his sons, Prince William and Prince
Harry, an array of well-known figures including Harrison
Ford, the Dalai Lama, Daniel Craig, Robin Williams
and children from around the world.
Each individual appears alongside an animated
frog. The frog, created by Framestore, the Oscar-winning
computer generated imagery (CGI) experts behind
the film The Golden Compass, serves as a symbol
of the rainforest.
The film will be broadcast for the first time today,
at 1pm EST, on a variety of websites, including the
social networking site MySpace. As the webcast is
transmitted, the public awareness film will be shown
at a launch event, attended by The Prince of Wales
at London¹s National Geographic store.
The film can be viewed, and the public can demonstrate
their support for the cause by visiting www.rainforestSOS.org
Wanna see Robin's contribution? Watch it here:
In a press release Robin tells us why he supports
this cause: “There are so many things in the rainforests
that must be preserved - I believe that it is an exquisite
part of the world - it needs us and much more important
we need it. Please help.”
Zak's Film Debut! (May
01)
A few years ago Robin mentioned on the Jay Leno show that his oldest son Zak was interested in going into acting. This week the film The Graduates premieres in New York, in which Zak makes his first feature film appearance. Rogue Cinema reviewed the film and wrote the following about Zak's character and the film itself:
Mike "The Resonator" Resniski
(Zak Williams): Mike showed up later in the film.
He's a 28 year old guy that Josh went to school
with. Josh spots him out and about and they have
a beer together. Their conversation reveals that
their lives have taken totally separate paths.
Mike is big into golfing and has a bitchy wife,
a bitchy mother-in-law and a baby. His conversation
with Josh makes him realize how much he hates
his life and wants his youth back. Zak Williams
didn't have a huge part in the film, but he had
a very notable part. He feels like so many of
us who have felt their youth slip away from them
without even realizing it had happened. One day
they wake up with that, "How the hell did I get
here?" feeling. He played his role perfectly,
and I really felt for this guy. I hate to sound
like a broken record, but Zak Williams is a really
likeable actor. The great thing about him is,
I could also see him taking up the spoiled rich
bastard role in some other film with equal adroitness.
(Woohoo!!! There's that vocabulary again!)
This film had so many characters and so much going
on, there was really no other fair way to write
this review than to mention as many of the notables
as possible and to talk about their place and
situation in the grand scheme of the film. There
were some other side characters who also did a
great job, but their roles were so small I'm not
going to get into them here.
The Graduates was a surprisingly good film. I
did feel like a few of the characters kind of
got lost in the shuffle here and there, but that's
to be expected in a film with this many characters
and this much going on. Still considering how
much there was going on with all the different
aspects of the story, a film like this one could
have easily become a total mess, losing any and
all direction. This film however held everything
together nicely and presents us with a coherent
story about a time in our lives that was a huge
period of transition for all of us. The end of
high school is the end of one era and the beginning
of a new one, and I think that those of us who've
been through it, will all be able to identify
with these characters and what they're going through.
This film is currently available for pre-sale
and will be out on DVD in May with lots of great
special features. If you love great independent
films, then I seriously suggest picking up a copy.
If you'd like to find out more about this film
or to order a copy for yourself, you can check
out the film's website at http://www.thegraduatesmovie.com.
World's Greatest Dad (April
11)
World's Greatest Dad
received very positive reviews after several screenings
at the Sundance Film Festival. Recently the film
has aqcuired a distributor and the film will have
a limited release on August 21, 2009. But, before
it hits theaters it'll screen at several film festivals
(Boston and Syracuse). The film will also be released
on "Video on Demand" prior to its official
theatrical release in August.
Recently Bobcat Goldthwait spoke with Eric Kohn
from The Wrap and told him: The movie's biggest asset, of course, is Williams.
The actor, one of Goldthwait's closest pals, had
heart surgery on March 13, but Goldthwait hopes
Williams can still help promote the movie. "He's
on the high end on the curve to recovery,"
Goldthwait said. "When I saw him the other
day, he had a lot of color and looked great. He's
really supportive of the movie." The full article can be found
here.
All festival info, stills and clips can be found
on the World's Greatest
Dad page.
As soon as the list with theaters/cities is available,
it'll be posted on the site. Stay tuned!!
Recovering! (March 23)
Robin is due to make a complete recovery within
the next eight weeks after having undergone heart
surgery on March 13, according to a statement released
by his publicist. "Mr. Williams' operation
went extremely well and we expect him to make a
full recovery," said Cleveland Clinic staff
cardiothoracic surgeon A. Marc Gillinov. "The
3-1/2-hour heart surgery was conducted to replace
his aortic valve, repair his mitral valve, and correct
his irregular heart beat."
Robin said in a statement, "The professionals
at the University of Miami Hospital and ultimately
at the Cleveland Clinic were all fantastic. I can't
thank them enough for their kindness and dedication
while I was in their care. I must also thank all
the people who have expressed their love and concern
for me. I have been deeply touched by their support.
I got some great new material for the tour and can’t
wait to get back on the road. I’m thinking
the next leg of the tour will be 'Weapons of Self-Destruction
and Reconstruction!'"
Robin undergoes surgery ; Tour postponed (March 05)
Robin has postponed the remainder of his "Weapons of Self-Destruction Tour" to undergo surgery for aortic valve replacement.
The tour is expected to resume in the fall, according to a release sent this afternoon from his publicist. It's been reported that the actor is a Miami hospital, however Williams' publicist would not confirm his location.
"I'm so touched by everyone's support and well wishes," said Robin in the release. "This tour has been amazing fun and I can't wait to get back out on the road after a little tune-up."
Previously purchased tickets will be honored once the new dates are scheduled or ticketholders can contact their place of purchase for refunds.
RWF Note: We'll change
the site asap. Emails are welcome, but we can't
forward them to Robin. Feel free to email though
(we will store and bundle all emails and if we get
the opportunity we'll send this to Robin's people),
but if you want to reach Robin we advice you to
use the fanmail address.

the situation.

He's expected to leave the hospital tomorrow. More news from a positive side: Lance Armstrong spoke with Robin earlier wednesday evening and said the following: He's doing fine and was in good spirits. Guy can't quite cracking jokes. 27) *edit Feb 28*

sold out "Weapons of Self
Destruction" tour to Broadway. He'll be performing

Robin about returning to Broadway: "I'm excited
to be back on Broadway. It's been a blast working
on new material for this tour. The current state of
the country's political and economic climate, while
so hard on so many people, has been like gold for
a comedian. There's just so much that's ripe for the
picking."
Last time Robin performed on Broadway was on July 14, 2002 when he did a performance that aired live on HBO, which is available on DVD titled: Robin Williams: Live on Broadway.

"I'm desperately naive" (January
22)
Robin did a couple
of interviews when promoting World's
Greatest Dad when it premiered at the Sundance Film
Festival last weekend. Below you can find a short, but
rather unusual interview.
Robin Williams may play a wise old sage in many
of his movies but in reality, he claims to be 'desperately
naive.' "I'm not wise at all in real life,"
said the star at the Sundance Film Festival premiere
of his new comedy movie World's Greatest Dad. "I'm
desperately naive most of the time." But the star
is able to turn to his three children, Zachary, 25,
Zelda, 19, and Cody, 17 for advice when he needs it.
"The good news is I have great friends and family,"
he said. "My children I ask not just for advice
but I also get a perspective from them on how I'm doing."
Robin was happy to be at the festival in snowy Park
City Utah to promote the new comedy film in which he
plays a flawed single dad and wannabe writer. "It
feels lovely," he said, before adding; "I'm
quite capable of dealing with the cold." published by thisissurreytoday.co.uk
World's Greatest Dad World Premiere! (January 19)
Yesterday (sunday January 18th) World's Greatest Dad Premiered at the Sundance Film Festival. The film can be seen at the festival 3 more times.
As for every premiere or World Premiere, Robin was there to attend the screening and promote his new film.
The first review has been published as well, which can be read below. Of course more reviews will follow.
One of the oddest comedic star vehicles since
Jim Carrey reached his outer limits in "The Cable
Guy", Bobcat Goldthwait's "World's Greatest
Dad' provides Robin Williams with his best role in
years. Obscene in concept and execution, the movie
functions as a highly subversive anti-morality tale
disguised as a mainstream laughfest. Williams plays
single father Lance, who teaches at the high school
where his universally unliked son Kyle (Daryl Sabara)
attends, until Kyle's apparent suicide. In a moment
of uncalculated fury, Williams's character,a talented
writer, composes a suicide note for his late offspring
to make him look better. The ruse works, and Kyle
becomes a posthumous hero for the scholastic community
that originally rejected him. Goldthwait, building
on the edgy turf he first explored with his previous
Sundance entry, "Sleeping Dogs Lie", excels
at accomplishing his exceedingly naughty intentions.
Goldthwait's script takes several plot twists to arrive
at its central premise, and the journey there feels
awfully derivative. But that's the point: "World's
Greatest Dad" works wonderfully as a rich black
comedy willing to reach into virtually unprecedented
territory to both offend, enrage and finally entertain
its theoretical audience. The only question is whether
that audience exists. Either way, Williams does penance
for his lesser studio comedies (This isn't "Mrs.
Doubtfire", Goldthwait joked at the premiere)
and it would benefit him to go this far again. written by Eric Kohn - Indiewire.com
